Social media push erupts to 'dim lights for Tark'

LAS VEGAS — A social media movement that began after Coach Jerry Tarkanian's death has people pushing for the Las Vegas Strip to dim its lights for the late UNLV coach.

It's being organized by locals Tony Cordasco and Scott Gulbransen, who said he would have never gone to UNLV if it wasn't for Coach Tark.

"It's hard for others to understand, but without Coach Tark, I would have never come to UNLV, Las Vegas or even met my wife," he told 8 News NOW on Thursday. "He simply changed my life in a roundabout way."

In a little over 24 hours, and some help from the media, users are flocking to the group's "Dim the Lights for Tark" Facebook and Twitter accounts.

So far, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, but there's a missing piece Gulbransen says — at least at this moment.

"What we really need is the casino-hotel operators to help us make it happen," he said. "In the end, they have to get on board."

"This is very personal and we want to say goodbye to Coach Tark the only way Las Vegas can."
