Local Music Students Compete for $36,000 in Prizes

Local middle school and high school students will compete Saturday for $36,000 in cash prizes for their music programs in the “Notes to Grow” music contest.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Myron Leavitt Middle School, 4701 Quadrel St., and admission is free.

Middle school and high school musical groups submitted applications and performance video for the contest for online evaluation and public voting. The four middle school and four high school groups receiving the most votes were invited to perform on Saturday.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or low folding chairs to be more comfortable during the event. Local Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores sponsored the prize money for the competition.

Knight Rider Festival Kicks Off Tonight

Knight Rider Festival Kicks Off Tonight

The 2011 Knight Rider Festival kicks off tonight at 5 p.m. at the Fremont Street Experience.

It will include both the original and new KITT cars from Knight Rider, followed by an opening ceremony with Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and LVCVA President & CEO Rossi Ralenkotter.

The evening also features entertainment with Paul Casey, Glen Larson and other special guest performers on the 1st Street Stage beginning at 8 p.m. The Knight Rider Festival continues on Saturday, March 19 with opening ceremonies, a VIP Q&A session and autograph signings by current and former Knight Rider celebrities. The KITT replica cars will be on display until 11 p.m.

Town Square launches Storytime in the Square

Town Square launches Storytime in the Square

Las Vegas -- There's a new place for kids and parents to enjoy a good book. Town Square is launching a new reading program called Storytime in the Square. Kids will get a chance to not only have classic children's books and new favorites read aloud, they'll also see singing, dancing and even magic.

Storytime will be held Wednesday at the Park at Town Square starting at 11am until Noon.

Best Buddies Festival of Friendship

Best Buddies Festival of Friendship

Las Vegas -- Best Buddies will hold its second annual Festival Friendship on Saturday, March 26th at Town Square. The festival will start with a one mile fun walk starting at 10:30am. Following the walk the Town Square Park will host a community fair with live entertainment, games, vendors and activities for families. The community fair goes from 11:30am to 4pm.

The money raised from the event will benefit Best Buddies. The organization helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by connecting them in relationships with people with and without disabilities.
