Cosmetology School Hosts Fundraiser for St. Jude's

The students of James Albert School of Cosmetology will host a charity fundraiser for St. Jude’s Ranch in Boulder City on April 29 and 30.

Haircuts, manicures, pedicures and eyebrow waxing will cost $5 per service. Hair color will be $10. All proceeds will be donated to St. Jude’s Ranch.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The James Albert School of Cosmetology is located at 6360 S. Pecos, Las Vegas, NV 89120. For more information, call 263-3320. Appointments are available and walk-ins are welcome.

Pet-A-Palooza Returns Saturday

Pet-A-Palooza Returns Saturday

The 12th Annual Pet-A-Palooza festival in support of animals in need returns Saturday near Sam Boyd Stadium.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and takes place at Star Nursery Fields at Sam Boyd Stadium, 7000 Russell Rd.

Admission is an $8 donation for adults and is free to children 3 and under, day of/at the door only - advance tickets will not be available for purchase. Parking is $7 per vehicle.

Attendees can receive $2 off the admission price with a donation of pet canned food item at the gate. Additionally, a portion of every ticket sold will benefit one of the 40 non-profit Animal Rescue groups onsite for the event to help feed Las Vegas' hungry animals.

Those Left Behind Foundation Vaccination Clinic is offering free vaccinations at Pet-a-Palooza. Animals must be eight weeks old and not older than 10 years.

Headline entertainment includes artists Train, American Idol’s David Cook, Andy Grammer and FeFe Dobson.

New Apartments for Disabled Adults Set to Open

Accessible Space, Inc. (ASI) is hosting an Open House and Dedication Ceremony for the Bob Hogan Apartments, a new, affordable, wheelchair-accessible apartment community for adults with qualifying disabilities located in Las Vegas, at noon Friday.

The event will be held at the Bob Hogan Apartments, 5075 Newport Cove in Las Vegas.  The day will begin with speakers and presentations from local officials, representatives, funders and supporters, and will close with refreshments and a tour of the building.

Sponsored, developed, owned and managed by ASI, Bob Hogan Apartments provides 21 wheelchair accessible apartments for very-low income adults with qualifying disabilities. Development and construction of the Bob Hogan Apartments was made possible with primary funding provided by the U.S.

Project Dinner Table Kicks Off 2011 Season

Known for organizing imaginative dinners in unexpected locations, Project Dinner Table begins its 2011 season on Saturday, April 16 at Town Square.


Project Dinner Table’s signature table, which is draped in white linens and seats up to 150 guests, will dominate the shopping venue’s North Main Street, stretching from Pete’s Piano Bar to Michael Stars. An array of world-renowned chefs from MGM Grand will create the dinner’s seven course menu. The dinner begins at 5 p.m.

GREENFest Coming to Town Square

The GREENFest celebration and fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 16 in the main park in the heart of Town Square, surrounded by exhibitors with valuable information about services and how to go green.

This event will be a community celebration and fair featuring various vendors, activities and giveaways. Our exhibitors with sustainable products and services will offer educational materials and activities on various areas of becoming a sustainable community. There will be a recycling art display, Farmers Market, free document destruction service, recycling collection center, energy and water conservation information, alternative and efficient transportation opportunities, and much more.

Spring Fling Events Starts Thursday at Town Square

The Lili Claire Foundation has partnered with Town Square and Davis Amusements Cascadia to bring the Lili Claire Spring Fling to Las Vegas beginning Thursday.

The Lili Claire Spring Fling is an event the entire family can enjoy with carnival rides, as well as midway games, food and rock climbing walls. Entrance to the Spring Fling is free, and tickets for the rides and games can be purchased for a few dollars (depending on the ride) or attendees can buy a daily unlimited ride bracelet for $20 per person. The event will be located behind Guitar Center in the northwest parking lot of Town Square.

The event was created in honor of National Autism Awareness Month, which aims to increase awareness of children living with autism and other special needs such as Down Syndrome and Williams Syndrome.

"We are looking forward to building The Lili Claire Spring Fling into a signature event for the Las Vegas Valley," said spokesperson Jessica Saylor.

UNLV Law School Presents Documentary Film

As a part of its Peace in the Desert film screening series, the Saltman Center of UNLV Boyd School of Law presents “Burma VJ,” an Academy Award-nominated documentary about journalists who filmed the events surrounding the uprising against the Myanmar military regime, at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Despite the prohibition of foreign news under the threat of jail or torture, this group of journalists worked undercover to reveal the protests and police brutality to the global audience. Michael Adler, Woodrow Wilson Center Public Policy Scholar and former correspondent for Agence France-Presse News Agency, will be providing commentary. Adler covered the Burma uprising in 1988.
