'America's Party' Plans Announced

Fireworks will again shoot off from the roofs of Las Vegas Strip hotels for the New Year’s Eve celebration.

Plans were announced Wednesday for America’s Party. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority along with Las Vegas Events, city leaders and Fireworks by Grucci laid out the plans for the big party.

The theme for this year’s display is “Dance—Las Vegas.” It will feature distinctive music and colors to help ring in the New Year. There will be eight resorts participating in the show: Tropicana Las Vegas, MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, The Venetian and Stratosphere.

“We will coordinate this display for the thousands of revelers on the Strip and those watching around the world,” Las Vegas Events President Pat Christenson said. “A production of this scope would not be possible without the cooperation between the LVCVA, Las Vegas Events, Fireworks by Grucci, the Clark County Fire Department and Building Services and the individual resort properties.”

The show will be eight minutes and 36 seconds long. It will consist of more than 56,400 effects to light up the sky. The fireworks will start with blue and green aerial shells and end with Titanium Salutes and Red Strobbing Tiger Tails.

County Commissioner Tom Collins says 315,000 people will be in Las Vegas for New Year’s Eve celebrations.
