Photo Gallery | Injured Turtle Now Calling Shark Reef Home

The Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay welcomed its newest family member Monday.

A 50-year-old, 320-pound rescued sea turtle known as Ocean Divers, OD for short, was put into the aquarium's 1.3 million-gallon tank.

OD was first found in 1999 near Atlantic Beach, North Carolina with a lung infection. He recovered, was tagged and put back into the ocean. In 2008, he was found floating near French Reef in the Florida Keys with a collapsed lung.

Because of his condition, OD cannot be released back into the ocean. The Shark Reef offered to bring OD to Las Vegas. He was actually brought from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to the Las Vegas valley by FedEx on July 25.

He has spent the last several weeks in quarantine, a standard procedure for new animals. He is now ready for his new home at in the Shipwreck display.

OD is joining two other sea turtles and 22 other species, including sharks, rays, fish and more.
