Blue Diamond Delays Expected Monday from Construction Work

As part of the I-15 Design-Build South project, crews will begin pouring concrete Monday for the new Blue Diamond direct-connect flyover ramp that will bring traffic from eastbound Blue Diamond Road to northbound Interstate 15.

During the concrete pour, the following closures and lane shifts are scheduled. Motorists are advised to avoid the area during these times as significant delays are expected.

4 p.m. - 11 p.m.        Intermittent alternating lane shifts on I-15 on-ramp to Blue Diamond Road

7 p.m. - 5 a.m.          Lane closures on Southbound I-15 at Blue Diamond Road

8 p.m. - 5 a.m.          Various lane closures on northbound I-15 at Blue Diamond Road

9 p.m. - 5 a.m.          Blue Diamond eastbound and westbound closed at I-15

10 p.m. - 11 p.m.      Northbound I-15 traffic routed over the Blue Diamond Road intersection

After the concrete pour, processes such as curing, installing barrier rail, signing, paving and striping must take place.  The flyover is expected to be open to traffic in a couple of months.

The I-15 Design-Build South project stretches from Tropicana Avenue to just south of Silverado Ranch Boulevard. The project includes widening the freeway, the addition of collector-distributor roads, five re-designed interchanges, 26 new bridge sections, 35 retaining walls and 1.5 miles of sound walls.

The design phase of the project began in late summer of 2009. Construction began in spring 2010 and is scheduled for completion in spring 2012.
