Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon to Run at Night

LAS VEGAS -- Big changes are on the way for the Zappos Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon. This year's marathon will take place in the evening  instead of the morning, giving participants the chance to experience the neon lights of the famous Las Vegas Strip.

Runners from across the country and around the world come to Las Vegas to experience the thrill of running up and down the Strip. But now, organizers of the race will be switching things up a bit and make it a night-time race with the start time of 4 p.m.

"Vegas is truly one of those towns that like to reinvent themselves and this race is obviously right on that," said Tom Ellingson with Zappos.

The marathon has been on the Strip since 2005 and the start time has always been around 6 a.m. Most marathons across the country are organized this way for logistical reasons -- it is harder to shut down a large part of the city later in the day.

But with Las Vegas being a 24 hour city, that may not be as hard to do.

The official announcement on this is set to happen tonight at 5:30 p.m. 8 News NOW will be streaming that event live.

Early registration will be available following the announcement by clicking here. That early registration at the special price of $121 will only be available for two days. Registration will then start again on May 31.
