Construction Starts on Sunset Park
Public Spaces

Construction has started on improvements to Sunset Park.

Crews shut down access roads Tuesday in preparation for the overhaul project. The first phase of the construction will go through September 15. Access to park’s northern-most entrance on Eastern Avenue will be restricted. Other entrances will be open.

Crews are working on improving 75 acres of the 325 acre park. They’ll be adding new lighting along the lake’s edge. They’ll also be improving fishing and wildlife viewing amenities. New trees, turf and shrubs will be added along with new playground equipment and shaded areas.

Most of the park will be open during the project but access roads and some amenities will have to be closed to allow for work.

The $11.7 million project is being funded by the sale of federal lands.
