Las Vegas' Riviera will close May 4

LAS VEGAS -- The Riviera Hotel & Casino will close on May 4 at noon to make way for expansion of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, according to a news release.

The 60-year-old Las Vegas Strip property will be demolished and replaced by the Las Vegas Global Business District which will offer more convention exhibit and meeting space.

More than 6,000 construction jobs are expected to be created for the project, while also bringing a permanent job force of 6,000 once completed.

Around 1,000 employees will lose their jobs once the Riviera closes.
