UPDATE: SB I-15 reopened after suspicious backpack deemed safe
News

LAS VEGAS -- Southbound Interstate 15 was reopened to traffic late Thursday afternoon after being closed for nearly 4 hours because of a backpack on the side of the freeway.

The roadway was shutdown at Tropicana Avenue after 1 p.m. while law enforcement investigated a black backpack found near the edge of the road.

A Freeway Service Patrol employee initially found the backpack and called Nevada Highway Patrol. NHP troopers inspected the item and determined that Metro's Bomb Squad needed to look at it.

Although the freeway is back open, it's expected to be awhile before traffic begins moving normally again.
