Caesars Palace Settles Octavius Tower Name Case | News

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Caesars Entertainment Corp. reached a confidential settlement of a federal trademark tussle with a man who claimed rights to the "Octavius Tower" name the casino giant uses on the Las Vegas Strip.

Terms of the agreement finalized Monday with Marcel July, formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., weren't made public.

However, Caesars spokesman Gary Thompson said the tower name hasn't changed.

The lawsuit was filed in April 2011 in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas.

It accused July of naming his entertainment company "Octavius Tower LLC" after Caesars announced it was building its Octavius Tower in Las Vegas in July 2007.

July filed for the trademark in 2008.

Octavius Tower opened at Caesars in 2009.

A friend, Bruce Stokes, of Bullhead City, Ariz., said July now lives in Germany.
