LAS VEGAS -- UFC fighter Alistair Overeem was charged with battery January 2 for pushing a woman in the face near the Wynn Las Vegas.
According to the complaint, Overeem, who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 260 pounds, pushed the woman in the face around 3 a.m., causing her to stagger back. The complaint also states the 31-year-old Overeem had been drinking at the time of the incident.
The alleged incident occurred just a few days after Overeem defeated Brock Lesnar during a title fight at UFC 141 in Las Vegas. Overeem's attorney, David Chesnoff, said his client is innocent in a prepared statement.
"I have advised Alistair not to comment on this matter, and that we will do our talking in court. It should be noted that Alistair was not arrested – he was summoned to court. There are two sides to this story and we intend on vigorously defending this as Alistair maintains his innocence."
Overeem is scheduled to appear in court in Las Vegas Justice Court on February 21.
