Strip Closures Upcoming for MGM Renovations
Strip Closures Upcoming for MGM Renovations

MGM Grand’s renovation project will cause traffic headaches on the Strip next week.

Drivers can expect lane closures and overnight traffic delays near the intersection of Tropicana and Las Vegas Boulevard South starting late Sunday night and is expected to last only three to five days.

The closures will accommodate construction crews erecting a 140-foot crane needed for the ongoing renovation work at MGM Grand. Two lanes of Tropicana Avenue, just east of the Strip in front of MGM Grand, will be closed to accommodate construction equipment for the three to five days it will take to build the crane. The crane will remain on site through the summer months.
Two remaining lanes of westbound Tropicana will remain open at all times. The two left-turn lanes will also remain open. Eastbound traffic on Tropicana will not be impacted by this project.

During overnight hours, all lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard at Tropicana, both northbound and southbound, will be intermittently closed. Safety regulations require traffic be stopped and cleared while equipment is lifted above the roadway. These closures will be intermittent, lasting up to 15 minutes. Closures will only occur in the overnight hours, between midnight and 8 a.m.

Pedestrian traffic will be redirected around the crane lift clear zone during those same hours.

Drivers should avoid this intersection during overnight hours, with Harmon Avenue, Koval Lane, Rue de Monte Carlo and Frank Sinatra Drive providing alternate routes.
