Alleged Strip Sign Thieves Busted

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Police say they've nabbed two people suspected of ruining the vacations of tourists snapping photos at the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign.

Officers say they arrested 49-year-old Juan Cordero and 26-year-old Jakeline Delgado Feb. 10 on suspicion of auto burglary after finding cellphones, computers and more than two dozen pieces of stolen luggage in their homes.

Authorities say the suspects sometimes lingered in the parking lot for hours waiting for tourists wearing expensive clothes, and then snatched items from their cars.

The diamond-shaped marquee designed in 1959 became more accessible after a 12-space parking lot was built there three years ago.
