UNLV “Spread the Word to End the Word” on Wednesday March 2nd

UNLV “Spread the Word to End the Word” on Wednesday March 2nd

This Wednesday, UNLV's chapter of Best Buddies and students from the PACE Program at S.E.C.T.A. will gather in the Student Union Courtyard to "Spread the Word". The goal of the groups is to convince members of the UNLV community to stop using the "R" words in a derogatory way, getting 1,000 plus signatures on a banner. They group will also be selling lunches as a fundraiser for their chapter.

The "R" word the groups are focusing on is retarded. Many people casually toss it about in a derogatory manner- 92% of the youth in this country have heard people use the term in such a way. However, this usage of the term is insulting and hurtful to people with intellectual disabilities. So drop by the Best Buddies on Wednesday if you agree and sign!

All money tossed into the fountain and the Mile's indoor rainstorm throughout the month of March will be donated to the Southern California & Nevada Chapter of the the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. So if you are in the area, pop by the Miracle Mile for one of the fountain shows at the top of the hour and toss in some change to go towards helping the nearly 4,000 Nevadans living with MS!
