Local Bakeries Team Up for Japan Fundraiser

Several local businesses will join forces next weekend at Town Square in an effort to provide assistance from halfway around the world. Sponsored by Yelp.com, “Rise Up Japan” unites Las Vegas bakeries for a charity bake sale benefitting the American Red Cross and its fund for the Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami recovery efforts.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, Brio Tuscan Grille in Town Square, 6653 Las Vegas Blvd. South, will host the local businesses donating goods for the event. They include Cupkates by Kate, Retro Bakery, The Cupcakery, Cookie Zoo and more. The day will also include light bites from Brio Tuscan Grille, live entertainment, raffles and more. Admission is free. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.

Klip It for Kidz Charity Event Set for Saturday

The Klip it for Kids charity event is scheduled for Saturday morning at Town Square.

Klip It For Kidz, sponsored by Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada (CCCN) and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, is a special event that raises money for and supports programs of the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation (NCCF).

For the past month and a half, the public has been invited to raise money by way of pledges and sponsors. At the event on April 2, people will come together to shave their head or cut longer hair to be donated for wig making.

In addition to raising money for a great local cause, Klip It For Kidz will feature live entertainment, exhibitions by METRO, Clark County Fire Department (CCFD), and Clark County Fire Department Honor Guard, food and fun for the entire family.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Miracle Mile Fountain Goes Blue for Autism Awareness

Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino will partner with Autism Speaks in April for its national Light It Up Blue campaign by turning its fountain blue in honor of National Autism Awareness Month.

Beginning Friday, Miracle Mile Shops' fountain will showcase a brilliant blue glow between regularly scheduled shows. All money tossed into the popular water feature, as well as the center's indoor rainstorm, will be donated on behalf of Miracle Mile Shops to Autism Speaks. The money raised supports research for treatments and a cure as well as educational programs and assistance for individuals and families affected by the disorder. The fountain will maintain its bright blue shade until the end of the month. Fountain shows take place at the top of every hour from noon to 11 p.m. daily.

Shift4 Boy Scout CEO/Executive SkyJump Challenge This Friday

On Friday morning, people walking by the Stratosphere will see an unusual site- flying CEOs, executives and politicians! More than a dozen Las Vegas CEOs have undertaken the Shift4 boy Scout Challenge, which tasks them to each raise a minimum of $855 in pledges and then leap from SkyJump Las Vegas. The funds raised by the event will go to the Scoutreach program, which reaches out to youth to encourage them in scouting. so if you see them, cheer them on!

Zipline Ride Fundraiser to Benefit Slain Cab Driver

Flightlinez and the Fremont Street Experience will hold a day-long fundraiser Monday with proceeds from all zipline rides benefitting the Professional Drivers Association and the family of slain cab driver Tesfaye Arze.

Zipline rides cost $15 from noon until 6 p.m., and $20 from 6 p.m. until midnight. All proceeds will be split evenly to benefit the Professional Drivers Association and the family of Arze. Arze, 30, was killed while on duty in the early morning hours on March 4 in an alleged attempted robbery.

Flightlinez and Fremont Street Experience most recently donated $15,000 to the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Knight Rider Festival Kicks Off Tonight

Knight Rider Festival Kicks Off Tonight

The 2011 Knight Rider Festival kicks off tonight at 5 p.m. at the Fremont Street Experience.

It will include both the original and new KITT cars from Knight Rider, followed by an opening ceremony with Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and LVCVA President & CEO Rossi Ralenkotter.

The evening also features entertainment with Paul Casey, Glen Larson and other special guest performers on the 1st Street Stage beginning at 8 p.m. The Knight Rider Festival continues on Saturday, March 19 with opening ceremonies, a VIP Q&A session and autograph signings by current and former Knight Rider celebrities. The KITT replica cars will be on display until 11 p.m.

Best Buddies Festival of Friendship

Las Vegas -- Best Buddies will hold its second annual Festival Friendship on Saturday, March 26th at Town Square. The festival will start with a one mile fun walk starting at 10:30am. Following the walk the Town Square Park will host a community fair with live entertainment, games, vendors and activities for families. The community fair goes from 11:30am to 4pm.

The money raised from the event will benefit Best Buddies. The organization helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by connecting them in relationships with people with and without disabilities.
