City of Las Vegas Looking for Volunteers

The City of Las Vegas is asking for people to volunteer to plant trees in the area of the city known as Berkley Square.

City officials will kick off the event on Saturday May 28 with a ceremonial tree planting at 7:30 a.m. at the corner of 8th Street and Owens Avenue. Organizers will plant 185 trees in the area. The tree planting is part of an effort to create a walkable community in the historic neighborhood. The planting is expected to take several hours and will end with a community barbecue.

A grant from the Nevada Division of Forestry paid for the trees. Each property along the street will get one 15-gallon tree, while corner lots will get up to three 15-gallon trees. Property owners will be required to water and maintain the trees.
