Spread the Word Nevada Hosted an Enchanting 10th Anniversary Storybook Gala

The 10th Anniversary Storybook Gala "One Enchanted Evening", hosted by local non-profit children's literacy group Spread the Word Nevada, was a celebration of community spirit and generous giving.

Held at The Venetian on September 17, proceeds from the event will sponsor literacy services and books, which will continue serving the low-income students and families within the Las Vegas valley. Spread the Word Nevada's goal is to encourage children to gain success through reading and literacy support.

Four-time Emmy award-winning anchor and President of 10e Public Relations Kendall Tenney along with renowned auctioneer Christian Kolberg entertained guests throughout the evening.

The gala commenced  with guests enjoying cocktails provided by Lee's Discount Liquor and wine selection by Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada. During the reception, attendees were surprised with entertainment from a sporadic "Flash Mob" song and dance performance by UNLV's Dance and Theater Program students, who were disguised as guests. Live music was orchestrated by a string trio from the Las Vegas Academy.

Dinner program included song performance by Cambeiro Elementary School students, one of twenty-four schools adopted by Spread the Word Nevada. CCSD Superintendant Dwight Jones was in attendance. Wendy Moss, UNLV School of Music, sang a solo piece of "The Climb."

Majestic Realty Foundation was honored at the gala for years of dedication towards helping Spread the Word Nevada advance its literacy initiatives. "Majestic Realty Foundation has been an avid supporter of Spread the Word Nevada since 2006, and being the honoree for this year's 10th anniversary is a privilege," stated Jean LaPlaca, District Manager of Majestic Realty. "Majestic is amazed that Spread the Word Nevada has supplied more than a million books to the deserving children in and around Las Vegas."

Other honorary guests included Nevada Assemblyman Scott Hammond, Former Governor Robert List, Assemblywoman Marilyn Dondero Loop, Assemblywoman April Mastroluca, Senator Michael Roberson, and Senator Mike Schneider.

Nine unique auction items were available for purchase, which raised $34,200. Up for bids were a “Pawn Stars” reality show package, “Cupcakery” experience, trips to Napa and Washington DC, courtside seats at the BNP Paribas Open, and a five-course dinner for 10 prepared by “Extreme Chef” winner Chef Jean Paul Labadie.

Imperial Crown table sponsors included SuperPawn and The Tony and Renee Marlon Charitable Foundation. Volunteers included Foothill High School - Young Empowered Skilled, Inc. (YES) students, National Charity League Green Valley Chapter members, and the University of Las Vegas (UNLV) performers.
