Cables Arrive for the Strip's Newest Attraction

Twelve semi-trailer trucks loaded with massive steel-support cables rolled into Las Vegas Tuesday.

The cables are for the $200 million SkyVue project. SkyVue is a giant observation wheel slated to open on the Strip in 2013. The attraction, which will include a shopping center, is being built across the street from Mandalay Bay.

There was enough cable delivered Tuesday to stretch from Las Vegas to San Francisco.

"It is the key process to getting the next portion of the wheel done. They have to get the columns to support the wheel and the next major phase will occur in the next 60 to 90 days when we set what we call the hub and the spindle," David Gaffin with SkyVue said.

The base of the wheel must in place before construction on the shopping center can really get under way. The shopping center will be 140,000 square feet of shops.
