Installation of bollards on Strip begins Monday

The installation of 800 steel bollards along the Las Vegas Strip will begin very early Monday, Nov. 13.

Last month, the first phase of placing the bollards began in front of the Mirage on Oct. 16 at 1 a.m. The preliminary work was called potholing and trenching, which consists of digging under the sidewalk to verify the location of existing underground utilities.

However, on Monday, construction crews will start to insert the steel. The construction shifts the first day is expected to last from 12:01 a.m. to 11 a.m. It will also be done on subsequent weekdays for the next several weeks.

On Monday, the crews will be working near the Hawaiian Marketplace, located on the east side of Las Vegas Boulevard, between Tropicana and Harmon.

During this first phase of the bollards project, 800 bollards will be installed at seven locations along Las Vegas Boulevard between Tropicana and Spring Mountain. The locations include parts of the sidewalks in front of the Bellagio fountains, Paris, Caesars, Harrah's, the Venetian and New York-New York.
The locations were selected based upon recommendations from Metro Police.

The goal is to install the first 800 bollards by New Year's Eve.
The County has plans to install an additional 7,500 bollards along the Strip (from Sahara to the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign) beginning next year.
