UPDATE: 71-year-old driver failed field sobriety tests, arrested after striking bicyclist

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 71-year-old woman has been arrested after she failed sobriety tests following a collision with a bicyclist. The 20-year-old was transported to UMC, where her injuries were determined to be life-threatening.

The incident occurred around 6:47 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14 at Sahara Avenue and Durango Drive. The intersection was closed for several hours.

According to Metro Police, the driver was in a Nissan pickup truck, traveling westbound on Sahara approaching the intersection. The bicyclist was riding eastbound in the roadway on Sahara when she turned left to northbound Durango.

The Nissan struck the bicyclist in the intersection and remained on scene. However, the driver failed the sobriety tests and was transported to the Clark County Detention Center.

Due to the seriousness of the crash, the intersection is expected to be closed for hours as police conduct an investigation.
