Woman Shot At by Police Near Downtown Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS -- Two Metro officers opened fire Monday morning near the Stratosphere in Las Vegas. The shooting happened near Baltimore and Tam.

Police say several people called 911 to report that they had seen a woman driving a car erratically. Every time police tried to catch up to the woman, the car was gone. Around 7:00 a.m., police spotted the car near Baltimore and Tam. Officers ordered the woman out of the car but she attempted to leave the area.

Police say she attempted to back up but was blocked. Police say she then drove forward and straight for an officer. The officer fired his weapon and the woman veered in a different direction, heading for another officer. The second officer also fired his weapon. The woman then crashed and took off running.

A third officer was able to capture her and take her into custody. There were no injuries to the officers or the suspect.

Police won't say whether the woman was under the influence of a substance or if the car was stolen. The incident is currently under investigation.

The suspect has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of assault on a police officer.
