LAS VEGAS -- A Downtown Las Vegas neighborhood is in shock after a women was attacked in the middle of the street.

Police arrested 33-year-old Harold Montague for allegedly attacking two adults and killing 4-month-old Damian Avila Castro near Sahara and Maryland Pkwy. Police believe the attack may have been random.

A neighbor named Teresa watched Montague kill the infant and bludgeon the child's mother with the ax.

"It was a look of pure evil," Teresa said. "I just saw a man beating a woman. I thought he was beating her with a golf club. I came out and told him to stop. I was calling 911, and I realized it was a hatchet. He started hacking on her again. I said, 'Stop that right now.' He ran in the house."

When officers arrived, the child was dead and the woman was in extremely critical condition. Medical personnel transported her to Sunrise Hospital.

Police found Montague coming out of a home near the attack. He was unarmed but struggled with officers before being arrested. One officer sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.

Inside the home where Montague was located, officers found a female victim suffering from several stab wounds. She was transported to University Medical Center and is in stable condition.

Police say Montague stabbed the female inside the house first, and then ran outside and attacked the woman pushing the stroller. Police do not know if the suspect is related to the woman inside the house.

"We have not confirmed any history of mental illness or any history of mental illness at this address or anything of that nature, but we are looking into that and we have to interview subjects that were out there -- witnesses, neighbors, things like that," said Metro Homicide Lt. Lew Roberts.

Teresa says she believes Montague has mental issues.

"He would walk up and down the street and stare at people. He was home alone with the children all day. The kids are always crying over there," she said.

Police charged Harold Montague with murder, attempted murder, and attempted murder on a police officer. Police say the identity of the victim will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
