Bettors Prepare for March Madness

LAS VEGAS -- College basketball fans are getting ready for their biggest week of the year -- March Madness kicks off Thursday.

Fans are filling out their brackets and the diehards are already staking out their seats in sportbooks to watch the games.

"It's crazy, but you have got to love it. People have passion for the school -- the teams that they support. There is no better place than Vegas to come and enjoy March Madness," said bettor Albert Moller.

The sportsbook inside the M Resort expects a big turnout, as local fans cheer on UNLV. The sportsbook director says a lot of Rebel money has also been coming in.

Inside the Mirage sportsbook, there are fewer UNLV fans but dedicated fans are expected to show up early for round one.

"Five or six guys will show up and stake out an area with seats and a couple will hang out and occupy the seats and the others will go up and shower and they will work in shifts," said Jay Rood with the Mirage sportsbook.

Sportsbook seating is first come, first serve, so some groups say they'll be staking claim on their seats at about 3 a.m., even though the games don't start until 9 a.m.

Bettors say the best tip they have for those looking to make a bet is show up early. The sportsbook at the M Resort saw a big turnout for the Super Bowl and they are expecting even more money to come in over the next four days for March Madness.

The M Resort sportsbook also has 120 proposition bets, ranging from which group of teams will make it to the Final Four to bets even during the game on whether a free throw will make it.
