Magnitude 4.3 earthquake shakes SoCal, epicenter near Carson

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck Carson, Calif. and the surrounding area at 7:58 p.m. Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake’s epicenter was located in Carson city limits, near Dolores Street Elementary School.

Still waiting for the "moment magnitude" (most accurate) for tonight's earthquake in Carson. Current estimate is M4.4. Location is just north of the 1933 Long Beach zone.

NHP investigates deadly Sept. 9 crash; seeking eyewitnesses

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- The Nevada High Patrol is asking anyone who may have witnessed a deadly crash that occurred on Sept. 9 at 5:00 p.m. on US6 at mile marker 11 in Esmeralda County, near Montgomery Pass to come forward.

NHP tells 8 News Now the crash killed 42-year Andrea Wyckoff of California, Thursday evening.

Troopers say Wyckoff was driving a 2021 black Kia Soul at the time and traveling west and the driver of a 2020 white Ford F250 was traveling east on US6 before the incident.

The Kia then traveled across the centerline and into the eastbound lane where the left side of the car hit the left side of the Ford.

Mt. Charleston resort steps up to help lodge employees, guests

MOUNT CHARLESTON, Nev. (KLAS) - Employees at the Mt. Charleston Lodge are now displaced and reflecting on their shock at watching their beloved mountain outpost destroyed in an early-morning fire.

Jessa Sosa and her boyfriend have worked at the lodge for close to a month. Sosa worked Thursday night and was on her way to work Friday morning when she found out about the blaze.

"I had hope the whole time it was burning like maybe something will be left," said Sosa. "But it's gone, unfortunately."

Sosa said when she left the lodge Thursday, everything seemed fine. That's why the fire comes as such a shock.

The staff at the Resort at Mount Charleston, which is just four miles down Kyle Canyon from the lodge, is doing its best to accommodate the workers from the lodge. Some 50 wedding parties that were booked for Mt. Charleston Lodge have already inquired about moving to the resort, which requires more staff... Read More
