Clothes, walking style used to connect suspect to double murder

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A suspect in the double murder of two 19-year-olds told detectives that he felt “put aside” by one of the victims, according to an arrest report.

Chance Underwood, 19, faces murder charges in the Aug. shooting deaths of Harlee Deborski and Timothy Bailey in a house near Grand Teton Drive and North Hualapai Way in the northwest valley.

Underwood described the teen who rejected his friendship as “not a good person.”

In interviews with Las Vegas Metro police, Underwood did not admit killing the two. But he did say he owned clothes and a backpack like the one seen on surveillance video police used to track a suspect’s movements before and after the two were killed. Five people displaced after downtown house fire

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas firefighters responded to
the 800 block of North 20th Street at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14,
after fire dispatchers received several 9-1-1 calls that a house was on fire.

When firefighters arrived, flames
and smoke were coming from a one-story, wood-frame house; it appeared to be at
the rear of the house. Firefighters found the fire in a bedroom; they had the
bulk of the fire out a few minutes after arrival.

Fire investigators believe the fire
started in the bedroom. It caused $25,000 damage to the house.

The cause of the fire is
undetermined.

The fire displaced three adults,
two children and three dogs. The American Red Cross is assisting.

There were no injuries reported

UPDATED: 5 police officers shot in Philadelphia

At least five police officers were shot in Philadelphia’s Nicetown section Wednesday afternoon. Police say the shooting happened when a narcotics unit entered the neighborhood.

One person was taken into custody but the standoff continues.

Police: ‘Operation Chill’ underway – get caught doing the right thing

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Students around the Las Vegas valley could be getting a Slurpee ticket as a incentive for doing something good.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department have partnered with 7-Eleven to give out the “Operation Chill” free Slurpee tickets to kids who are doing things such as getting good grades, using crosswalks properly or helping fellow citizens.

Excessive heat warning issued, continues through Friday

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — An excessive heat warning was issued Wednesday for all of southern Nevada below 4,000 feet and will remain in effect through 8 p.m. Friday.

Temperatures will soar well above normal for mid-August, ranging from 107 to 113 degrees or higher.
