Suspect escapes custody after Las Vegas hospital releases him

LAS VEGAS (KLAS)-- Nye County sheriff's deputies were searching Friday for 35-year-old Larry Avila after they said he was mistakenly released from a hospital in Las Vegas without notifying them.

Avila is described as being 5 feet 4 inches fall and 165 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes.

Last Saturday, deputies said they were in a pursuit with a motorcycle rider, believed to be Avila, that ended in the area of Oyster and Basin.

Avila was injured in the case, deputies said. He was identified later to have several nationwide warrants out of the 5th Judicial District Court for offenses regarding theft, stolen property and narcotics, the sheriff's office said.

Avila was transported to the hospital after he sustained injuries. The hospital was supposed to notify the NCSO when he was medically cleared to be booked into jail, deputies said... Read More

East Las Vegas school lockdown ends, suspect in custody

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Metro police have ended a vehicle barricade situation in the 2600 block of Los Feliz Street following a reported domestic violence-related incident.

Nearby schools were placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution, and lockdowns have since been lifted.

A suspect has been taken into custody, according to police.

CCSD reports attendance for students, teacher absences after the 5-day pause

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Clark County School District students finished the week in class after returning on Wednesday -- the day after a five-day "Stop the Spread" pause due to rampant COVID-19 cases.

We reached out to the district to check on attendance.

Districtwide, more than 1,300 teachers were out on Wednesday and Thursday. More than 1,500 teachers were absent on Friday. That's slightly below average.

Student attendance was about 85% all three days. CCSD said the average for the school year has been around 90%.

Teachers not sure 5-day pause was long enough as CCSD classes return on Wednesday

CCSD is the fifth-largest school district in the nation, with an enrollment of about 320,000 students.

Hard Rock says goodbye to volcano as part of remodeling Mirage

LAS VEGAS (KLAS)-- The volcano outside of the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas will be torn down as part of remodeling, Hard Rock International Chief Executive Officer Jim Allen said.

The Hard Rock International, which brought the property from MGM Resorts International last month, plans to rebrand the resort, including demolishing the entire front of the property.

A rendering from Hard Rock shows its plan to build a guitar-shaped hotel next to the main property.

Arnold Schwarzenegger involved in multi-car crash that injured 1

(KTLA) – One person was taken to the hospital in a four-car crash in Los Angeles Friday afternoon that is believed to have involved actor and former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The crash, which Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department said was reported at about 4:30 p.m. at Sunset Boulevard and Allenford Avenue, ended up with one vehicle — a large black SUV, according to photos taken at the scene — on top of another car, which appears to be a red Prius.

Madison could not confirm that Schwarzenegger was involved in the crash, but photos from the scene appear to show the actor and politician at the crash site. ... Read More
